31-year-old Clayton Mibroda of Bolivar is scheduled for an evidentiary hearing in Westmoreland County Court today, as he seeks to overturn his conviction for killing his 20-day-old daughter in 2011.
Mibroda is acting as his own attorney and has been compiling records from the investigation and his former attorneys after having been denied new counsel at the public’s expense last year. He maintains that he is innocent of causing the death of Natalee Kay Mibroda, admitting that he “dropped” her, but blaming the baby’s mother, Kayla Lichtenfels.
Mibroda’s mother, Vickie Fetterman, lives in Indiana County and had temporary custody of the infant after her birth. Natalee was born addicted to opioids due to drug abuse by both parents. A U.S. Appeals Court last year denied Fetterman a chance to sue Westmoreland County’s Children’s Bureau for odering the baby be returned to her parents.
Mibroda will be transported today from SCI Greene County to the courtroom of Judge Christopher Feliciani, where he hopes to convince the judge to grant him a new trial. He is serving 15 to 30 years for third degree murder.
