Supporting a local organization and street naming were two topics brought up at last night’s Indiana Borough Council Meeting.
During the meeting, Indiana Borough Council moved to continue their support of the Indiana Recreation and Parks Commission. At a meeting in December, the Indiana School Board had an item on the agenda to call for their administration to withdraw from participation in the commission effective July 1st of this year. The motion was later amended to send the issue to the district’s academic and extra-curricular activities committee. Soon after that discussion, the White Township Supervisors passed a motion to continue their support for the rec commission. Borough Council Member Kaycee Newell said that Indiana Borough is one of three groups that support the commission, the other being White Township and the School District, and if the district were to pull out, it would take away one-third of the rec department’s budget, and it would be financially disastrous.
