The Homer City Borough Council heard from a citizen concerned with Route 119 road noise, and hired a new part-time police officer.
The council informed the citizen concerned with 119 road noise that they had looked into a Jake brake ordinance last fall in light of citizen complaints. However, PennDOT has chosen not to survey for the Borough’s noise ordinance request until construction in the area is complete. So, it could be another year or more until the ordinance has a chance to pass.
Another citizen addressed the council with his concern for the American Flag on the borough building being flown in inclement weather. But, as the flag is weather-proof, it has not been in violation of U.S. Flag Code.
In other news, the council voted to hire Zachaery Stumpf of Blairsville as as part-time police officer for the borough. Stumpf has experience with Hanover Township and Ford City Police Departments.
Additionally, Borough Manager Rob Nymick addressed flooding issues at 119 and Carlisle Street that have been taken care of. He said also that blockage has been discovered in the waterline between Church Street and Race Avenue, and another problem was discovered on Railroad Avenue between Route 56 and Church Street. Nymick mentioned also an issue on Elm Street between Greeley and Wiley. The problems will be tackled as soon as water levels drop enough to diagnose and fix the issues.
