The attorney for 21-year-old Matthew Darby has filed a motion in Indiana County Court, asking for a gag order and for a change of venue for Darby’s rape trial.
Darby is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend, who was an IUP student, in February of last year in Indiana. He is also accused of murdering another former girlfriend, Alin Sheykhet, last October at her apartment near the University of Pittsburgh. He was captured in South Carolina days after Sheykhet was beaten and stabbed to death.
Darby’s criminal docket sheet says he is being held at the Indiana County Jail. The Indiana County charges against him include rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault.
Judge William Martin has scheduled a hearing for next Tuesday on attorney David Schrager’s motions asking for a change of venue and a gag order. Darby’s Indiana County trial is scheduled for May 21st. In Allegheny County, no trial date has been set yet. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Friday.
