Charges have been filed against two Penns Manor school students who were overheard by other students discussing a plan to “shoot up” the district.
State police say a 13-year-old boy from Strongstown and a 12-year-old boy from Penn Run were talking about their plan at 7:30 yesterday morning. One of the students who overheard them notified school staff members, and state police were notified. Charges were filed with the Indiana County Probation Department.
The school district has not issued a public statement on the incident, or on any disciplinary action against the students.
Meanwhile, another area school district is taking preemptive action against threats. The Armstrong School District, which includes West Shamokin High School and the Elderton, Dayton, and Shannock Valley elementary schools, has established a district-wide tip line for “anonymous reports of crime, suspicious activity, acts of violence, drug activity, a student in danger, or any other situation that might present a threat to school safety”.
The tip line is 724-548-6060 and is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tipsters are asked to relay as much information as possible including the name of the schools and persons involved, the types of activities that are alleged, and when they may occur or already have occurred. Callers are urged to call 911 in the event of any emergency.
