Indiana County President Judge William martin will conduct a motions hearing today for Matthew McNevin, the 20-year-old Rayne Township charged with killing a man and wounding a woman in a shooting last March during the IUPattys celebration on Oakland Avenue in Indiana Borough.
McNevin is accused of fatally shooting Carlos Recalde-Campos and wounding Samantha Riley. He’s charged with homicide, attempted homicide, two counts each of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, plus receiving stolen property and a firearms violation. He’d been feuding with Recalde-Campos and in a social media post, he is seen waving a stolen gun around and boasting that he was going to shoot him. According to police, the gun came from Matthew Ohler Jr., who made the video and is also facing charges in the case.
The omnibus pretrial motions were filed by Public Defender Donald McKee, even though McNevin in December asked for a new attorney, citing “irreconcilable differences” with McKee. On January 31st, McNevin asked the court to file a letter he wrote to McKee, but it’s not known what that letter said.
McNevin is also on today’s formal arraignment schedule, but he has waived his arraignment on institutional vandalism charges related to his behavior while in prison for the homicide charges.
There are formal arraignments for dozens of defendants on today’s formal arraignment calendar, including 28-year-old Robert Dale Bender Jr. of Indiana, who is listed in 28 separate criminal filings. The court schedule also include several summary appeals cases.
