Last week, sports analysts believed the Pens would not make an impact at the trade deadline. But last night, the Pens were part of a three-team trade to bring forward Derick Brassard that will definitely help at center.
Reports say that Brassard almost didn’t go to the Pens. The first trade offered would send Brassard to the Pens and in return, the Pens would have to give them Ian Cole, goalie prospect Filip Gustavsson and a first round pick. The NHL revoked the trade for “improper use of salary retention”, so both teams re-worked the deal.
The deal that was accepted was a combination of the above trade, and the Pens would get a 2018 third round pick and prospect forward Vincent Dunn.
The trade also involved the Las Vegas Golden Knights as Ryan Reeves was sent to Vegas and in return for that, the Pens get forward Tobias Lindberg.
