Thomas Valjean Patterson, 80, of Clymer, PA died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
The son of the late Guy Patterson and Rose Pearl (Coy) Patterson, he was born on December 29, 1937 in Cherryhill Twp., Indiana Co., PA.
Tom was a 1955 graduate of Pine Twp. High School.
Since 1967 he was self-employed as the owner/operator of Thomas V. Patterson Trucking & Excavating.
Tom was a member of the Heilwood Sportsman Club and the Three Point Sportsman Club in Clarence, PA.
Some of his favorite past times revolved around being in the outdoors going hunting; fishing and camping. Tom like participating in tractor pulls, as well as watching tractor pull events. He looked forward to attending blue grass festivals. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.
Tom married the late Thelma W. Patterson on December 19, 1961 and they shared forty-nine years of marriage together.
He is survived by his five children: Sharon Stapleton and J.D. Wagner of Clymer, PA; Thaddeus Patterson and wife, Carrie of Clymer, PA; Rex Patterson and wife, Johndra of Clymer, PA; Brenda Detwiler and husband, Brent of Commodore, PA and Valerie White and husband, Todd of Cookport, PA; his daughter-in-law, Janet McGuire and husband Pat of Clymer, PA; his twelve grandchildren: Mark and fiancé, Debbie; Jimmy; Jered; Kent; Noah; Travis; Samantha; Nicholas; Tyler; Dylan; Logan and Madelyne and his seven great grandchildren: Brittany; Alexis; Austin; Lucas; Alandrea; Hadley and Jensen.
Tom is also survived by his three siblings: Grace L. Brothers of Commodore, PA; Francis D. Patterson and wife, Helen of Clymer, PA and Jeanene L. Stewart and husband, Ted of Commodore, PA and his sister-in-law, Avalee Patterson of Hillsdale, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on December 21, 2010; his son, Terry L. Patterson in 1980; his brother, Carl E. Patterson and two brothers-in-law: Larry C. McCombs and Bernard L. Brothers.
Family and friends will be received from 6-9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 and 2-4:00 and 6-9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. An 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Purchase Line United Methodist Church, 17107 Route 286 Hwy East, Commodore, PA with Pastor Robert White officiating. Interment will be at Diamondville Cemetery in Diamondville, PA.
