In the wake of the shootings last week at a Florida High School, Blairsville High School administrators had to deal with a potential threat on Friday, and the incident shows how important it is to be alert and responsive to such situations.
In a letter published on the school website and forwarded to district parents, Assistant Superintendent Jeffrey Soles tells of the incident on Friday. He says some students overheard another student commenting inappropriately on the Florida shootings. The students reported it to a teacher and the teacher notified the administration, and after the students were interviewed, the decision was made to call state police. They investigated and the student who made the improper comments was removed from the school.
Soles emphasizes that at no point was anyone in harm’s way, not was the school threatened in any way. He commends the students who reported the incident and says the situation was “contained and dealt with quickly” because of them.
A state police report issued today says the student involved is an 18-year-old male.
