Sunday’s Sports Roundup includes Saturday’s IUP basketball doubleheader against California University, and a check of the Penguins who play the second of two back-to-back games this evening.
The IUP basketball teams swept the doubleheader from California. The women trounced the Vulcans, 79-49. Megan Smith scored 23 points and Carolyn Appleby 19 to lead the way.
The men survived an unsteady second half to win, 82-75. Cobo Diaz scored 20 points, Anthony Glover 19, and Dante Lombardi also scored 19 points, including his 1,000th career point.
The Penguins got goals from five different players as they rallied to beat Toronto, 5-3. Olli Maatta scored the game-winner in the third period. Other goal scorers included Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust, Zach Aston-Reese, and Carl Hagelin.
