Water levels are starting to go back down and return to some normal levels after heavy rainfall brought creeks, streams and rivers to flood levels.
The National Weather Service had focused on the Conemaugh River in Seward as a potential trouble spot and the river’s flood waters crested at 14.87 feet at 11:00 AM yesterday before starting to recede. As of this morning, the water level is once again below the 12 foot flood stage at 10.6 feet. While not at flood level, it is still at an “action” level, and is expected to go back down below that action level by mid-day.
Meanwhile, approximately 40 basement pumping calls were made for fire and rescue crews throughout the county. Crews were active for approximately 36 hours as they continued to pump water seeping into basements. The last basement pumping detail was reported in the Canoe Township area at 9:12 PM last night with the Rossiter Fire Department called out for that.
While we will not see rain in the forecast today, we will see some snow, and temperatures could cause some freezing conditions.
