Reports of basement pumping continue to come in as rain continues to fall and cause flooding problems in Indiana County.
One of the areas that the National Weather Service is focusing on is the Conemaugh River at Seward, which currently stands at 13.52 feet. Flood stage for that river is 12 feet. This marks the highest the river has been since Hurricane Ivan’s remnants came through our area in 2004.
Vehicle traffic may see some delays this morning as well, as some roads in the county are closed for flood-related reasons. PennDOT has announced the following roads have been closed:
- Route 1014, Wandin Road, is closed between Twolick Road and Hill Road in Green Township
- Route 4020, West Creek Road, is closed between Route 119 and Route 210 in Mahoning Township
- Route 2013, Gas Center Road/Wehrum Road/Plowman Road/Grange Hall Road/Rexis Road/Stutzman Road, is closed between Mack Road in Buffington Township and Plowman Road in East Wheatfield Township
- Route 1022, Sebring Road, is closed between Route 286 in Montgomery Township and Rice Road/Purchase Line Road in Green Township
- Route 954 is closed between Route 110 in Creekside Borough and Chambersville Road in Washington Township
- Route 56 is closed between Charles Road in East Wheatfield Township and Third Street in St. Clair Township
- Route 580 is closed between Route 219 and Mahoning Road in Cherry Tree Borough
Tom Stutzman of Indiana County’s Emergency Management agency says there may be other township and borough roads affected by the rain fall.
Meanwhile over 20 pumping details have been issued since last night. The latest were two calls in the Center Township area. One on Route 110 and the other on Route 119. Coral-Graceton is on the scene for both incidents.
Also, few details are available on a reported structure fire in Pine Township, but we know that the incident was actually flood related.
Pine Twp, Clymer, Cherryhill, Nicktown and Vintondale Fire departments were called out along with the Rig Team and Citizens Ambulance to a fire at a home on Route 403 in Pine Township. Assistant Chief Nathan Muir was on scene and confirmed that the call was flood-related as the basement was flooded and shorted out a motor in the house’s furnace, filling the home with smoke. Crews remained on the scene to pump out the basement.
