As the flu season continues and the number of cases increases dramatically, Pennsylvania’s department of health is offering free flu shots through 41 clinics across the state, including one in Indiana.
Acting Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine called H3N2, this year’s most prevalent flu strain, has been difficult for seniors and young children, and because confirmed cases of the virus continue to be a significant threat for the health and well-being of many people in the state, the flu shot clinics will be set up. Nearly 62,000 flu cases have been reported across the state from the start of October to February 10th, and that has resulted in 107 deaths. In Indiana County alone, 888 cases of influenza have been reported to the Department of Health, but the number of actual flu cases could be higher as people may go to their doctor and be treated for the flu without being officially diagnosed for it. The Department of Health advises that people should stay home if they feel they have the flu so they can rest and recover, and coughing into your arm or sleeve to prevent spreading it onto your hands and then to everything you touch.
Indiana’s Flu Shot Clinic will be held February 26th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the State Health Center on North 2nd Street in Indiana borough. Residents are encouraged to schedule their appointment by calling 1-877-PA-HEALTH.
