The Clymer borough council authorized a motion to take out a state loan, and began discussions on installing sidewalks on various streets.
The council authorized a request by President Louis Tate and Manager George Oakes to take out a TAN loan, or Tax Anticipation Note. According to Tate, the $30,000 loan will help the borough operate until tax revenue starts trickling in:
“It’s basically a short-term loan that they [municipalities] use to help pay the bills and keep the borough functioning until the real estate taxes come in.”
If possible, the borough plans to repay the loan by the end of the year.
In other news, council member Joe Krolick brought to discussion the installation of sidewalks on various streets like Jefferson and Sherman, but the council decided to discuss the issue more at the Committee Meeting on February 27th. In the meantime, the council will look into available grants for any would-be sidewalk projects.
