Virginia “Ginny” Lee Wymer, 91, our wonderful, fiercely independent and unique motVher, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, suddenly passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018.
Ginny was born in Chicago, IL, on May 21, 1926, to the late Leroy and Anne Jerger Turner and raised by her grandmother in Troy, Indiana.
After graduating from Troy High School, Ginny enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corp, graduating with a registered nursing degree in 1948. She worked at Gallinger Hospitals until she joined the Air Force in 1951 and reached her highest commission as a 1st Lieutenant. Her first posting was at Brooke Army Hospital burn unit. From 1952 to 1954, she served as a flight nurse in France and Germany, and as an RN at Chateauroux Air Base in France. While there, Ginny met the love of her life, 1st Lieutenant Lloyd E. Wymer, Jr. They were married on March 27, 1954. Ginny was an army wife, mother and homemaker for 16 years. Upon the death of her husband in July 1970, Ginny moved the family from California to Florida to be closet to family on the East Coast. She subsequently took a refresher nursing course and started working as a public health nurse, working for the Orange County Public Health Department in Florida until 1988, when she retired. She spent the rest of her life, enjoying and visiting her children, grandchildren, sister and friends.
She was the loving mother to her son and daughter: Richard L. Wymer and wife Mary Lou Benvenuto; and Susan Meardon and husband Dan; dear grandmother of Doug Meardon and Patricia; and great-grandmother to Alanna and Ava.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lloyd E. Wymer, Jr.; and her two sisters: Mary Senf and Alice E. Turner.
Friends will be greeted from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., where a blessing service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The observance of military honors will be accorded by the members of the Indiana V.F.W. Post 1989.
