In high school basketball action on Saturday, the two Indiana teams lost, while the United girls won. The Indiana boys were beaten by Hollidaysburg, 51-43. Indiana was led by Carlos Carter, who scored 28 points. The Indiana girls fell to Slipper Rock, 48-37. United’s Ashley Morgan scored 21 points to lead the Lions to a 69-49 win over Richland. Maizee Fry scored 15 and Madison Duplin 12.
Red Gerard claimed the United States’ first gold medal of the Winter Olympics early Sunday morning. The 17-year-old snowboarder from Breckenridge, Colorado won the gold medal in slope-style snowboard competition.
