IUP has announced that eight proposals will receive funding to improve student success, recruitment and retention.
The University’s Budget Advisory Committee received 33 proposals from the office of the President, Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, and the list was whittled down to 13, and the respective groups made presentations to the committee in November. Out of that 13, eight programs were selected to receive a share of the $300,000 in performance funding that was set aside by the President’s Cabinet.
The proposals that will receive funding include:
- A peer mentoring pilot program for first-year students through the Academic Success Center. They will receive $15,965
- The Eberly College of Business and Information Technology’s STARR program, which stands for Student Ambassador for Recruitment and Retention, will receive $20,000.
- Enrollment management will receive $42,000 for their diversity weekend program
- A second program from enrollment management will receive $30,000 for their tour guide program.
- A third program from enrollment management will receive $65,000 for a graduate comprehensive marketing campaign.
- The College of Health and Human Services will receive $52,084 for a three-part retention program that will add academic support assistants, create a faculty development workshop, and create an institutional scholarship account.
- The Hispanic Heritage Council will receive $27,200 for a Pre-college leadership summer camp for latino students.
- The Natural Sciences and Mathematics department will receive $35,000 for their “Whole Person” advising program.
Status reports for each of the projects are due for the May meeting of the Budget Advisory Committee.
