Indiana County District Attorney Pat Dougherty has announced a new program called Project Lifesaver, which will use state-of-the-art GPS technology to assist in locating people struggling with Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, and other conditions that might cause them to wander away and endanger themselves.
The Project Lifesaver Program places a personalized radio transmitter or GPS locator on at-risk individuals to assist caregivers and specially-trained Electronic Search Specialists. The average rescue time in areas which use the devices is thirty minutes.
Dougherty says he was able to brig the program to Indiana County using money seized in drug forfeitures. It will be offered to qualified county residents free of charge. To qualify, the person must live at home and have 24-hour in-home care.
