A Derry teenager is being charged as an adult for stabbing his father with a sword.
The incident happened on January 31st. That’s when police were called to Poplar Street for a report of a man in the street, holding his abdomen and his shirt bloodied. The man told police that he had an argument with the 17-year-old boy, identified by police as Andrew Turner IV, over his attendance at school. That escalated to the point where allegedly the boy stabbed him in the stomach with a sword. The man also said that Turner threw a small refrigerator, a barbell full of weights and other items down the stairs after the victim as he fled the scene. The victim then ran to a relative’s place to get help.
Turner was found in a wooded area near the scene. He was charged as an adult with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. He is in Westmoreland County’s Juvenile Detention Center unable to post bail. A preliminary hearing is set for February 14th.
