The Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots, 41-33 in Super Bowl 52.
Philadelphia’s Brandon Graham forced a Tom Brady fumble that Derek Barnett recovered late in the fourth quarter. The Eagles had taken the lead on the previous drive when Nick Foles found Zach Ertz in the end zone from 11 yards out with 2:21 left. The seven-minute-and-one second drive was a response to the Pats taking their first lead of the game on Rob Gronkowski’s second touchdown from Brady.
Nick Foles was named the game’s MVP. He threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, and he caught a one-yard touchdown pass on fourth and goal late in the first half. Brady, meanwhile, broke his own Super Bowl record throwing for 505 yards, and he also threw for three TDs.
The win was the Eagle’s first Super Bowl victory and the team’s first NFL championship since 1960. The Patriots have played in ten Super Bowls but have won only five of them. The Steelers remain the only NFL team to win six Super Bowls.
With the Super Bowl over, the Colts are expected to move forward with the hiring of Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. He wouldn’t address his future with reporters after the game last night.
26-year-old Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson was killed early yesterday when he was hit by a suspected drunk driver as he sat in a vehicle pulled off a highway in Indianapolis. Jackson and another man had pulled off the road because Jackson had taken ill. The other man died. Jackson missed all of last season due to injury.
