Joseph G. Maruca, 98, of Shelocta, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A son of the late Bruno and Rose Machak Maruca, he was born Nov. 2, 1919, in McIntyre.
Mr. Maruca was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked as a miner and then a boilermaker. Mr. Maruaca was a member of UMWA Local 3548, Boilermakers Local 154, Indiana VFW Post 1989, Indiana Eagles 1468, Blairsville Elks and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter.
Mr. Maruca is survived by four children: Karen Anness and husband Robert, of Youngstown, OH; Joanne Faunce and husband Richard, of Bonita Springs, FL; Joseph Maruca, Jr. and Gary Maruca, both of Shelocta; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, John Maruca, of Blairsville; a sister, Carmella Gary, of McIntyre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Butchoski Maruca; two brothers: Albert and Francis Maruca; and three sisters: Catherine Montgomery, Jessie Aloisie and Alberta Slupek.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc, Indiana. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum.
The observance of military honors will be accorded by the members of Indiana VFW Post 1989.
