State Police have released information on the first of two crashes that happened within minutes of each other on a portion of Route 422 in White Township.
Police say at 7:49 AM, 50-year-old Sherry Miller and 83-year-old Robert Elgin of Indiana were both going East on Route 422 near the Oakland Avenue Exit in White Township and Miller noticed that Elgin’s car was going at a slower rate of speed. She hit the brakes but was unable to stop and her SUV rear-ended his SUV. Elgin’s SUV went another 50 feet before going off the road, while Miller’s vehicle was stopped on the roadway from the collision. Both Miller and Elgin were taken to IRMC for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Both are expected to be cited for traffic violations.
Within minutes of this crash, and as traffic was merging into the other lane to go around the crash site, 54-year-old Sally Smith of Indiana had slowed down, and was rear-ended by 26-year-old Laramie Mealy of Shelocta when the sun blinded her vision and did not see Smith’s SUV had slowed down. The two wound up in the median. Those two were also taken to IRMC for treatment of minor injuries.
