Another piece of history is coming down at IUP, with the demolition work underway this week on Leonard Hall, making way for the construction of the new College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics building, which will begin two years from now.
Over the next several weeks construction vehicles will be moving around the location in the heart of the IUP campus, as the rubble is trucked away. Workers will be acting as “truck spotters”, walking in front of and behind the trucks to keep the path clear and watch for pedestrians. The university is asking for patience, understanding, and extra caution from pedestrians.
The demolition is expected to take six weeks and will include six trips each day to and from the site. Some sidewalks will be closed and signs will point walkers to the safe routes.
Once the Leonard Hall site is cleaned, graded, and seeded, the next step is the demolition of Walsh Hall.
Construction on the science and mathematics building is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2020.
