Last night, the Indiana School Board gave their approval to relinquish ownership of a wrestling mat and six clocks and have the items returned to the Indiana Wrestling Boosters.
At a meeting earlier this month, the board had voted to table the issue until after the wrestling season was over to prevent the issue from becoming a distraction. Discussion came up last night concerning if the district would be without the necessary mats for an upcoming tournament, but Board President Walter Schroth said that the tournament would have the required number of mats.
The board eventually voted 8-1 to relinquish ownership of the items. Board member Tom Harley said he was in favor because the board never formally accepted the mats as a donation or gift. Doug Steve, who was the lone vote against the measure, said a handshake agreement was in place and still valid on the equipment.
In other business, the board tabled a conference request for eight staffers to attend a Summit Learning Spring Convention in Maryland. The request was tabled as the future use of Summit in the district is still up in the air.
