Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up in the month of December.
December’s Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the month of December was 5.8%, which is a two-tenths of a percentage point increase from November, but still a 1.3 percentage point decrease over the last 12 months.
The 5.8% unemployment ties Indiana with Carbon county for the 47th lowest unemployment rate in the state. Comparing Indiana County with our neighbors, Westmoreland had the lowest with 5.2%, Jefferson is next at 5.5%, and Cambria at 5.6%. Clearfield checked in with a 6.0% unemployment rate, and Armstrong County had the highest rate in the area with 6.1%
Total non-farm jobs went up by 100 jobs in December, with the financial activities sector gaining 100 jobs. It was the only published industry showing an increase.
