Police reports include an incident of retail theft and a number of crashes, one of which involving alcohol.
State police report a crash in White Township involving alcohol and a controlled substance. At 1:41 AM on Friday, a 1999 Ford Ranger driven by 23-year-old Kristian Johnson of Blairsville collided with a 2001 Saab 95 SE operated by 27-year-old Joshua Makarsky of Luxor, PA. According to the report, Makarsky was stopped in a left travel lane facing west on Oakland Avenue, when Johnson’s vehicle struck him from behind. During the investigation, police determined that Johnson was under the influence of alcohol and an undisclosed controlled substance. Johnson was charged with careless driving with further charges pending. Police were assisted by the Indiana Fire Association and no injuries were reported.
State police have issued several traffic accident reports, including one that happened on Thursday afternoon in which two people were injured. Police say a car driven by 87-year-old Rose Strickland of Indiana left College Lodge Road and struck a parked vehicle that was in a pull-off area. Strickland was injured, as was 71-year-old Timothy Bish of Indiana, who had been sitting in the parked vehicle. Police say both suffered injuries of unknown severity. They were taken to the Indiana Regional Medical Center, and the report also lists Forbes Regional Medical Center, but does not say which of the injured parties was taken to that facility.
No one was injured Friday morning in a crash on Luciusboro Road in Brush Valley Township. Police say 47-year-old Scott Dipofi of Johnstown failed to stay in his lane as he rounded a right-hand curve and struck the oncoming vehicle of 63-year-old Pamela Buterbaugh of Homer City.
A 25-year-old Saltsburg woman will be charged this week with retail theft for an attempted swipe-and-swap at the White Township Walmart store. State police say the woman concealed several DVDs and left the store, then returned a short time later and did a fraudulent return at the service desk. She was given a gift card worth $169.39. Police do not identify the suspect.
