The Jimmy Stewart Museum has announced initial plans for the museum’s festival weekend.
The Museum will celebrate its 22nd year anniversary this year, and in the plans will be the return of one of the museum’s awards, the George Bailey award. This year, the museum will honor Pittsburgh Steelers legend Rocky Bleier with the George Bailey award. Bleier was drafted by the Steelers in 1968, but was also drafted into the US Army that same year, and suffered a serious injury when a grenade exploded near him and shrapnel went into his leg. Bleier underwent two years of grueling rehab to come back to play for the Steelers and help them to win four Super Bowls in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Past recipients of the George Bailey award include Tony Renda of Renda Broadcasting, Mike Donnelly of the Indiana Gazette, TV Host Nick Clooney and his wife Nina, former Museum Board Member and Jimmy Stewart Impersonator Chris Collins, impressionist Rich Little, former museum board president Carson Greene, NBC News Reporter John Yang and Katheryn Crosby, Bing Crosby’s widow. The award is generally given to those who have provided a lot of assistance to the museum in some form.
The dinner is set for May 18th at 6 PM at Rustic Lodge. More ticket information will be made available soon. The Jimmy Stewart Museum’s celebrations will continue with the traditional celebration of Jimmy’s Birthday, May 20th at the museum from 11-3.
