The first candidate to declare his intention to run for state representative from the 62nd district did so on Saturday night.
In front of around 100 supporters gathered at the Coral-Graceton Fire Hall in Center Township, Logan Dellafiora declared his candidacy, seeking the Democratic primary nomination this May. The 20-year-old Dellafiora, who lives in Coral-Graceton, has served for two years on the Homer-Center school board, and is currently a student at IUP. Dellafiora is the first declared candidate from either major party to run for what many presume to be an empty seat in the state legislature. That’s due to reports that the current office holder, Dave Reed, will instead run for U.S. Congress, seeking the Republican nomination from the 9th Congressional district.
In a speech that lasted just over 20 minutes, Dellafiora outlined his goals in seeking the Democratic nomination from the 62nd district. That includes bringing 21st century jobs to Indiana County, and also expanding education on opioid drugs, in an effort to stop people from using the drugs before they ever become addicts.
