The Penns Manor Comets pulled the biggest upset in the Heritage Conference this season by downing Homer-Center, 60-59, last night at the Homer-Center.
The game started with Penns Manor shooting two technical free throws due to an administrative error as Homer-Center did not have all of their players properly logged in the scorebook. The Comets converted one of the two free throws and that point turned out to be the difference, although a second technical late in the game turned the tide.
With the score tied at 57 apiece, the Wildcats turned the ball over and received a bench technical charged to an assistant coach. The Comets made one of two to take a 58-57 lead with possession of the ball. Homer-Center quickly fouled again and the Comets hit both free throws to take a three-point lead. The Wildcats missed a three pointer and the follow-up shot went down at the buzzer, but it was only a 2-point field goal and Homer-Center came up short, 60-59.
The Wildcats, now 9-4 and 6-2 in the conference, were led by Corey Cavalier with 16 points, Michael Ginter added 11. For Penns Manor, who played without leading scorer Adam Dunn, they were paced by Brandon Baird with 23 points, while Zach Busovicki added 17.
The Comets improved to 6-8 overall, and just 3-6 in the conference.
