State police say a reported case of impersonating a police officer has been determined to be “unfounded”.
The initial report was that an 18-year-old driver from Saint Clair Township, Westmoreland County, was pulled over by a man driving a gray Ford Taurus with flashing red and blue lights along Route 56 in Brush Valley Township on January 8th. The young man reported that the supposed police officer wearing blue jeans, a black tee shirt, and a green military-style jacket with “USMC” on its front did not have a badge or identify himself as a police officer. He also claimed that he was stopped because he was following too closely and that the man became angry and yelled at him because of his driving, and that he used the public address system on his car to holler at him some more.
Police now say it was a legitimate traffic stop conducted by a trooper, and the young man’s report was “unfounded”. They do not report any charges filed against the driver.
