The Indiana School Board decided to table an issue concerning ownership of a wrestling mat and six wrestling clocks.
Those items are at the center of a disagreement between the Indiana School District and the Indiana Wrestling Boosters. A motion was on the agenda to relinquish ownership of the items and return them to the boosters organization. Superintendent Dale Kirsch had made the deal himself as he did not want to involve the board’s solicitor, and incur extra costs to the taxpayers.
After a motion to amend by Tom Harley to request all sides involve to enter binding arbitration failed, and further discussion, the board decided to table the issue until after the wrestling season is over. Doug Steve said that he didn’t want to have the issues with the boosters and the district distract the wrestlers.
But Heather Marcozzi of the Wrestling Boosters said that the decision to table the motion will hurt the boosters financially as they won’t be able to rent the equipment out. She said it would be another three to four months worth of lost revenue that they would have to make up. There’s no word yet if the Boosters association will file a lawsuit against the district to get the equipment back.
In other business, the board also approved two budget-related items: One was a resolution that the board would not increase school taxes in the upcoming budget beyond the 3% limit calculated by the State Department of Education, and the other was a direction to the administration to prepare an initial budget presentation with no tax increase.
