IUP swept a basketball doubleheader with Mercyhurst Saturday at the KCAC.
The women routed Mercyhurst, 89-38, in the early game. The men defeated Mercyhurst, 67-57.
IUP women’s basketball head coach, Tom McConnell, reached a career milestone of 100 wins at IUP. Since taking the head coach position in 2013, McConnell has an overall record of 100-30 (.769 winning percentage) with three straight 20-win seasons, including a 25-4 overall record during the 2014-15 season.
Five Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures in the win: Megan Smith with 17 points, Carolyn Appleby with 16 points, Audrey Stapleton with 16 points, Lauren Wolosik with 11 points, and Ana Hollen with 10 points. Sophomore forward Maura D’Anna added 10 rebounds and six points.
In the men’s game, redshirt junior forward Willem Brandwijk scored a season-high 15 points, leading five IUP scorers in double-figures.
Brandwijk went a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and converted 5-of-6 from the foul line, adding seven rebounds in 31 minutes of work.
