The Homer City Borough council elected a new president, filled a vacant council seat, and officially adopted a new noise ordinance. A safe place to dispose of unwanted medication is also being considered.
Joe Iezzi was elected council president with three votes over Matt Black’s two votes. Former mayor Kal Cecconi was elected vice president, unopposed. And, Mike Supinka was re-appointed as solicitor.
Additionally, Arlene Wanatosky commented on her appointment as mayor:
“I’m happy to be the new mayor of Homer City Borough. And I am looking forward to a good working relationship between myself and the police department, and borough council this year, and years to come.”
Later, the council voted to appoint Jennifer Jaworski to the council seat vacated by Bernice Harris last month. The council also accepted the resignation of Louis Sacco as part-time police officer, and hired Jill Gaston to take the position.
In other news, police chief Anthony Jellison said he was looking into bringing a medical disposal bin to the borough office for residents to safely dispose of unwanted drugs. While the disposal bin would be free, the borough would assume some cost:
“The only thing that would go against the borough, or the borough’s responsibility, is to have it paid for to have the drugs disposed of.”
More information, and possibly a decision, will be available at next month’s meeting.
Jellison stated also that parking enforcement on Main Street will begin next Monday, January 8th.
Lastly, the previosly reported noise ordinance was officially adopted and is in effect.
