With Downtown Indiana in a difficult financial position, the group has released their executive director, David Janusek.
Downtown Indiana president Malcolm Polley said that David had done a great job in his two years as the Downtown Indiana Executive Director, but funding for the group became tight after property owners in the proposed Indiana Downtown Improvement Area (known as IDIA) rejected the business improvement district plan. Polley said that now that they have to go back to a membership funding system, they did not have the money to fund two full-time positions, and it was decided that Janusek would go.
Polley had high praise for Janusek, as he helped restore some of the positive news and esteem to the Downtown Indiana area. Polley added that Janusek’s “right hand man”, Linda Mitchell, would take over as the group’s executive director. She was chosen as she had what Polley described as a softer skill set needed for the current state of the organization.
The group’s Executive Committee is also trying to finalize a modified list of activities and functions that they want to continue this year, but as that list is not finalized, Polley did not say specifically what events would stay or go.
We reached out to David Janusek for a statement from him, but he has not replied.
