One thing that can be anticipated as the new year rolls around is the increase of tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The increase goes into effect January 7th and was announced by the Turnpike Commission last summer. Tolls will increase for passenger vehicles by $1.23 to $1.30 for those who have E-Z Pass, while the increase will be between $1.95 to $2.10 for those paying cash. The commission says the increase is necessary because of a 2007 state transportation law that devotes a portion of turnpike revenues to fund mass transit through 2022, and to help make improvements to the 550-mile turnpike.
This marks the 10th consecutive year that the Turnpike Commission has increased tolls for drivers.
