Pennsylvania State Police have announced the results of their enforcement efforts over the Christmas Holiday.
State Troopers arrested 243 people for driving under the influence during the three-day Christmas driving period from December 23rd to the 25th. That’s a decrease in arrests from last year. In 2016, 314 people were arrested for DUI over a four-day period. State Police also investigated 529 crashes over the holiday weekend, with 60 collisions involving alcohol. Five people were killed and 102 people were injured. One of the deaths was in an alcohol-related crash.
Along with DUI enforcement, troopers issued 1,261 speeding tickets, 145 seatbelt citations and 26 child safety seat citations.
While not available by county, the statistics were broken down by troop. Troop A, which serves Indiana County, investigated 32 total crashes, with three of them alcohol-related crashes. No one was killed but five people were injured.
