Winter weather contributed to several accidents on Indiana County roadways in the last couple of days, including one yesterday afternoon on snow-covered Route 240 near Hazelnut Road in Green Township. A 17-year-old Cherry Tree boy who is not publicly identified lost control of his car on, sliding off the road and striking several trees. The driver was unhurt but his passenger, 53-year-old Carolyn Deyarmin of Cherry Tree, suffered injuries of unknown severity. She was taken by ambulance to the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Shortly after that, there was another accident, on Route 286 in Rayne Township. State police say no one was injured when a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Alexa Rager of Indiana spun out of control on the icy, slush-covered highway, striking a guide rail.
Police have issued reports on two other accidents, both of which occurred on Saturday. The first occurred just before 6 AM when a car driven by 29-year-old Shawn Fryer of Glen Campbell swerved to try to avoid a deer, hit the animal, and then struck the guide rails along Route 286, south of Musser Street in Green Township. The state trooper responding to the scene found the car, but reported that Fryer had left the scene before the trooper arrived.
State police have not identified the driver involved in a crash at 8:45 PM Saturday on Mulberry Road in Cherry Tree. Driving under the influence charges are pending against the 22-year-old Northern Cambria man.
