Indiana Borough Council held a special work session and announced that as a result of a lawsuit filed by an IUP off-campus developer, the borough will work with the developer on plans to build off-campus housing on Oakland Avenue.
Since 2013, B&L Properties and Indiana Borough’s planning commission have been involved in court battles over B&L’s request to develop off-campus housing at 931 Oakland Avenue. The plans were rejected by the planning commission at the time, but B&L decided to appeal the decision.
In November of this year, a decision was rendered and the plans for the proposed student housing have been sent back to the borough for further review, and according to Borough Solicitor Neva Statler, the borough will be committed to seeing the process through to a logical conclusion, whether that is approval or another rejection.
Statler also said that the review must be under the requirements of the old Traditional Neighborhood Development ordinance.
