The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has published a list of municipalities that have “opted out” of permitting mini-casinos within their boundaries, and has announced a schedule for the auctions of licenses, the first of which will be on January 10th.
The cash-strapped commonwealth has expanded gaming options across the state, including new options for casino internet gambling, fantasy sports betting, airport tablet gaming, and truck stop video games.
Called “Category Four” licenses, the permits for mini-casinos will be auctioned with a minimum bid of $7.5 million for slot machine gambling and another $2.5 million for table games. Bidders must submit two sealed envelopes at the auction, one containing the bid amount and the other the county and municipality in which they propose to open their facility.
So far, Indiana County municipalities which have decided not to allow Category Four gambling within their boundaries are Armagh and Creekside boroughs, and Armstrong, Banks, Buffington, South Mahoning, and West Mahoning townships.
After January 10th, additional auction dates are scheduled on January 24th, February 7th and 21st, March 7th and 21st, April 4th and 18th, and May 2nd and 16th. Municipalities have until December 31st to opt out.
