PennDOT is looking back on this year’s ambitious construction schedule, with the District Ten office reviewing completed and ongoing road and bridge projects in its five-county coverage area.
Paving was completed on 110 roadway miles this year, and more than 26 bridges were completed or are still under construction.
In Indiana County, four big projects are highlighted. They are:
- The recently-completed $9.3 million Home bridge, which was relocated, heightened, and realigned to soften a significant curve.
- The $16 million Grove Chapel Hill project, which is expected to be completed next year. It will result in a new climbing lane for trucks on Route 119 in Rayne Township, with safety improvements on the dangerous curves at the top of the hill.
- The $10 million reconstruction of Route 119 in Center Township.
- And the removal of two bridges, plus the replacement of one of them, on Route 119 over Yellow Creek in Homer City, with a price tag of $15.2 million.
PennDOT District 10 is comprised of Indiana, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, and Jefferson counties. This year, it opened bids for 26 bridge projects and 34 road projects, totaling $145 million.
