The Homer Center School Board made a few personnel decisions, and the new board President spoke of his goals for the coming year at Thursday night’s meeting.
For personnel items, the board hired an assistant boys’ track coach and approved the hiring of a spare bus driver. Additionally, Fred Hayes was approved to join the ARIN IU 28 board.
Regarding the school calendar, a motion was made for revision to reflect the movement of a snow makeup day from April 19th to April 3rd.
Prior to adjournment, individual board members recognized Athletic Director and Wildcats football coach Greg Page for a successful football season.
New board President Michael Bertig outlined his goals as President, including furthering discussions on the school calendar, school start times, and the restoration of technology education. Bertig expressed his support for faculty currently working without contracts, and his desire to maintain good relationships with the faculty and support staff unions. Acknowledging the importance of competitive wages, Bertig said:
“I do believe that we need to pay our teachers and support staff members good wages that continue to attract quality individuals to those positions. At the same time, we do have to be mindful of the district’s difficult financial situation.”
