Our area has been teetering on the edge of winter weather for a few weeks, but it appears we are in for our first real taste of it today.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which will be in effect from 7 o’clock this morning through 7 o’clock tomorrow morning. For Indiana County, the weather service is predicting 2 to four inches of snow, although areas around us might get 3 to 6 inches, and higher elevations could in for as much as 8 inches of snow.
The hour-by-hour forecast calls for snow showers between 7 and 9 o’clock this morning, a period of heavier snow between 9 and 10, and then on and off snow showers the rest of the day. There may be just a few snow showers in the early evening, but after 9 o’clock tonight, there should be very little snow activity.
The biggest problem might be the wind, which will gust as high as 34 miles per hour, creating poor visibility and possibly drifting snow. Another side effect of the snow…tire stores are probably going to be very busy.
