Is Art Halvorson considering another challenge to Congressman Bill Shuster? It appears so after the release yesterday of a survey commissioned by Halvorson.
According to the survey, 32 percent of Republicans in Shuster’s 9th District believe the Congressman should be re-elected, while 55 percent say it’s time for a new congressman. The 9th Congressional District includes Indiana County.
The survey of 578 “likely Republican Primary voters” in the 9th District was conducted November 21st and 22nd, with a margin of error of 4.1 percent. Halvorson claims Shuster’s vote for legislation that would force the military to pay for sex-change operations for service members is especially troubling, with 70 percent of respondents disapproving.
The new poll numbers show 38 percent for Shuster and 36 percent for Halvorson with 26 percent undecided if the election were to be held tomorrow. The poll’s margin of error is 4 percent. Halvorson lost to Shuster in the last two Republican primaries, although only by about 1,200 votes in 2016. He also lost in the 2016 general election, running as the Democratic nominee after taking that primary election as a write-in candidate.
Halvorson says he will announce next month whether or not he will challenge Shuster in the 2018 Primary.
