The Reverend Doctor Douglas S. Pride, 58, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Born Jan. 13, 1959, in Latrobe, PA. In a life of scholarship and service, Doug’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Armstrong Pride, of Ann Arbor, MI, his daughters Kathryn E. Pride and Jennifer S. Pride, of Chicago, IL and Pamela C. Pride, of Ann Arbor, MI. Also his sister, Janet K.P. Mills and her husband, Dr. Stephen C. Mills of Latrobe, PA. In addition, he leaves behind adored nieces and nephews with their respective families. He was preceded in death by his parents Spencer M. Pride, (1972) and S. Kathleen Pride, (2016). He was ordained at the Avonmore Presbyterian Church; installed at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church; and continued his ministry at the Clearfield Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Pride graduated from Kiski Area High School (1976) and Westminster College (1980) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He continued his education at The Pittsburgh Theological Seminary receiving his Master of Divinity (1983) and his Doctor of Ministry (1993). His doctoral dissertation was published as ADVENTURE IN HEALING. Doug was an avid traveler, photographer and enjoyed participating in a wide variety of sports. Some of Doug’s proudest accomplishments were his diverse involvement in Westminster College activities, especially his helping to establish the Dr. Wayne H. Christy Lecture Committee and leading mission trips to Sabaneta de Yásica in the Dominican Republic.
Visitation will take place at Ferguson Funeral Home, 25 West Market Street, Blairsville, PA from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm on Friday, Dec. 8. A service led by the Rev. Robert D. Cummings will be held at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 200 North Market Street, Ligonier, PA at noon on Saturday, Dec. 9, with an additional visitation beginning at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Presbyterian Church in care of “DSPride Memorial Fund for the Dominican Republic” or to the charity of your choice.
