The Indiana School Board will hold their reorganization meeting and their regular business meeting tonight at the district offices at East Pike Road.
At tonight’s meeting, four new board members will be sworn in, as Thomas Harley, Ute Lowery, Barbara Barker and Terry Kerr will take office tonight. Kerr takes a two year term as he was elected in a special election to fill the remainder of a term when Robert Edwards resigned from the board earlier this year. William Smith took Edwards’ seat for the remainder of the year. Harley, Lowery, Kerr and Barker each ran on an anti-Ben Franklin project platform, as they each had expressed their disapproval of the proposed 900-student Ben Franklin Elementary School project. The project was officially halted earlier this year.
Also, one current member of the school board will once again take the oath of office, as Julia Trimarchi-Cuccaro was re-elected to another term.
During the regular meeting, the board will discuss a no-cost backup to recording board meetings. Recently there were some technical issues with the video recording of the meetings as a camera malfunctioned during the meeting. The backup would be used in case something does happen to the normal recording system. Up for approval tonight is authorizing the administration to perform a survey of 6th grade students, their parents or guardians, and teachers on the topics of the Summit Platform, personalized learning and technology. The program has come under fire in recent meetings as many people have spoken out against it.
