The truck driver facing charges after causing a huge pileup on Route 22 in Burrell Township has been granted a continuance of his preliminary hearing, which was scheduled yesterday. Meanwhile, state police have released the report on the November 13th accident.
40-year-old Hunter Geslien of Naugatuck, Connecticut is charged with DUI controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a small amount of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia, and six summary traffic violations. Police said he was going too fast and the tractor trailer overturned as he tried to turn left onto Resort Drive. Several stopped vehicles were hit and others were pushed into each other in a chain reaction. Afterward, police say Geslien admitted using heroin and marijuana before the crash.
The accident report issued yesterday names eight vehicles involved, one of them a Blairsville-Saltsburg school van which had no students inside. Geslien suffered minor injuries, as did several others, including Jonathan Sikora of Export, Noah Overman of Homer City, Terri Corrado of Clymer, George Wanschin of Homer City, and two Blairsville children, ages 5 and 10.
Geslien is free after posting $25,000 bond. District Judge Jennifer Rega has rescheduled his preliminary hearing for January 10th.
