State Police have arrested a New Hampshire man on charges related to a chase Tuesday night in Black Lick and White Townships.
Troopers were patrolling Route 286 in Black Lick when a black pick-up truck was seen crossing the center line coming towards the marked state police vehicle. Troopers turned around and started to go after the truck, with the lights and sirens on to try and pull the truck over. The driver of the truck, later identified as 19-year-old Jaemind Fortin of Groveton, New Hampshire, lead police on a seven-mile chase, with two additional state police vehicles joining in when the chase went into White Township. One of the vehicles got in front of the truck to get him to slow down, and another was able to maneuver into position to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Route 286 and Indian Springs Road.
Fortin ignored verbal commands to get out of the vehicle, and resisted arrest to the point that troopers had to use a taser on him to take him into custody. It was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at that point in time, and was subsequently taken in for a blood draw.
Police also reported that one of their vehicles did emit some smoke at the conclusion of the chase, but it was a minor problem.
Fortin faces charges of DUI, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and several summary charges. He was arraigned and placed in Indiana County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for December 14th at 10 AM in District Judge Guy Haberl’s office.
