Preliminary hearings are set for today in Indiana County Court, including one for a man charged with aggravated assault in connection with a welfare check in August in the Blairsville area.
Kevin Edward Carrozza of Blairsville will face District Judge Susanne Steffee for a preliminary hearing today on two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and a single felony count of aggravated assault. The charges stemmed from an incident at 1:11 in the morning on August 14th. State Police say that a member of the Blairsville Borough Police showed up at a home in the 400 block of East Brown Street to do a welfare check on someone at the home. It was at that point that police say Carrozza attacked the police officer. The injuries were severe enough to send him to the hospital, but he received outpatient treatment at Indiana Hospital and was promptly released. A warrant had been issued for Carrozza, and he was arrested in early September.
Bond for him was originally set for $25,000 straight cash, but that was changed to unsecured bond so he could get a mental health evaluation.
