The unemployment statistics for Indiana County for the month of October are in and there’s been no change since the month of September.
The State Department of Labor and Industry announced that the county’s unemployment rate in October remained at 5.5%. It’s still higher than the statewide average, which was 4.7% . Indiana county is tied with Luzerne and Monroe counties for the 55th lowest unemployment in the state. Among our neighbors, Westmoreland county has the lowest unemployment rate with 4.8%. Jefferson has a 5.2% rate for October, Clearfield and Armstrong Counties tied with 5.4% each and Cambria County’s was at 5.7%. The lowest unemployment rate in the state is Chester County’s with 3.3%, with Cameron County checking in with the highest unemployment rate at 6.6%.
Total non-farm jobs increased in the area by 200 jobs to 32,800 jobs in October. The slight increase was due to gains in education-related industries.
