As things get back to normal from the long holiday weekend, so do the county courts as there will be several sentencing and plea and sentencing hearings to be held today.
Many of the charges for the hearings are drug and alcohol-related charges, including possession and DUI, but among those who face sentencing is 28-year-old Ayla Binion of Marion Center, who pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and one count of theft from a motor vehicle. Five counts of receiving stolen property, three other counts of theft from a motor vehicle, two counts of theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespass, loitering and harassment were not prosecuted in her case. Those charges were filed in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins in May along Pearce Hollow Road in Rayne Township. She was caught in a garage by a homeowner at 4 AM that morning and was detained by that person until police arrived.
Binion is also expected to plead and be sentenced today in a separate case in January of last year. In that case, she faces charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and three summary traffic offenses.
